The Zambia Free Press Initiative (FPI), in partnership with BBC Media Action, invites practicing women broadcast journalists in Zambia to apply for our professional Moto training programme, now in its fourth year.

About Moto:

The Moto Initiative is a Current Affairs and Investigative Journalism Training Programme launched in 2022. It trains selected journalists for a period of between 10 and 12 months, exposing them to best journalism practices necessary for their broadcast careers.
Three years on, this ambitious initiative has transitioned into a movement strong enough to create a powerful team of young female investigative journalists across Zambia.
So far, 32 young journalists representing three cohorts have remarkably made tremendous impact in the profession – earning promotions, winning awards and attending high level investigative meetings within and outside Zambia.

The Next Phase – Moto 5

A unique opportunity for 20 practicing women broadcast journalists to improve their news and current affairs reporting and investigative journalism skills is here once again. This programme will allow the 20 Moto 4 women broadcast journalists to gain practical journalistic experience while working with experienced mentors from the FPI and BBC Media Action.

The training will be conducted over a period of ten (10) to twelve (12) months starting June, 2026, with a combination of face to face and remote training and mentoring sessions. Focus will be on building the theoretical and practical skills of selected participants.

The course will cover six (6) key areas, which include:

1) Fact-checking and verification
2) Investigative journalism
3) Packaging Impactful News bulletins
4) Online news reporting
5) On-location reporting
6) Interviews in the ‘Hard Talk’ format

After each of the training sessions, participants will produce and broadcast a piece of content with ongoing support from the mentors.

Are you that motivated, dynamic female broadcast journalist with demonstrated interest in news, current affairs and investigative journalism and ready to undergo the fourth phase of our Moto Project? Then do not miss this chance.
