Success Story | Using Video Storytelling to Promote Digital Safety in Lusaka West
Under the Free Press Initiative’s Media and Information Literacy (MIL) project, the Lusaka West Hub used video storytelling as a practical way to document and share learning experiences on digital safety.
The videos captured real training sessions, allowing key MIL messages to be preserved and shared beyond the immediate training environment. This helped ensure that learning continued even after sessions had ended.
This was an initiative of hub trainers Joseph Kamanga and Beatrice Chabaya. Featuring learners in the videos encouraged peer-to-peer learning, as students were able to see and hear from their fellow learners, making the messages around digital safety more relatable and easier to understand.
The video content also supported advocacy and awareness efforts by highlighting the importance of Media and Information Literacy in promoting safe and responsible use of digital platforms. Learners became active participants in sharing these messages, rather than just recipients of information.
Overall, combining training with video storytelling strengthened community ownership of the project and created reusable content that can be used for future awareness and outreach activities.
